Yelp Gives Lola’s Garden 4.5 Stars

by Gerry May 26, 2021

On Yelp

Lola’s Garden, an indoor-outdoor dining concept at Suburban Square, has only been open a  little more than a month, but has already garnered 15 reviews on Yelp, and a rating on that website of 4.5 (out of 5).

Cheryl M. from Birmingham, Alabama wrote –

For dinner, I ordered the hot fried chicken sandwich after hearing so many good things about it. It came out on a really good roll and had slaw and pickles on it. This sandwich was hot in all the right ways. It had a good heat to it without being overwhelming. It has a strong black pepper taste so if you like black pepper then you will really like this sandwich. The french fries that came with it were spot on. Hot and tasty.  I would definitely get this sandwich again.

One not-so-positive review came from Brian D. of Ardmore. He complained about the service –

If you are offering take-out drinks then the assumption would be the bartender serving these would be pretty ready for that option and welcoming as you walk in and approach.  As I approached the bar the bartender on duty just sort of stared at me for a few seconds before looking away as she seemed far more interested in chatting with some friends/customers on the two bar seats by the window.  I then verbally asked for a drinks menu this time explaining we wanted to take one outside.  This time she did hand me the menu but did not bother to take the 2 seconds to include the beer menu (with the cocktail only menu I was given) and with her demeanor not really being too friendly, we decided to just go somewhere else.

Brunch/Lunch at Lola’s Garden
My 3 friends and I made reservations 3 weeks ago. With all of the we great reviews, we were very excited.
Pros: Rhe food was great as was the service. The flight of 3 vodka infused drinks were great!
Cons: Portions were small for the prices and menu is very limited. I had the green goddess salad. It was mostly leafy greens, one hb egg and 1 cucumber cut up into small rectangles.
I suggest expansion of the menu and even a 10-15% increase in portion size would keep this venue in go-to place list.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

These Garments Have Been Politically Maligned

Most non-Arabs who wear the keffiyeh do not intend it to be Anti-Semitic in any way. They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
