Friday Night – Lower Merion @Penncrest – This Game Promises To Be A Doozy

by Gerry

If you’re looking for some outdoor entertainment on Friday night, consider taking the half-hour drive down Route 1 to Lima (10 minutes past Media), where the Lower Merion Football Aces will be facing off against the Penncrest Lions, at 7:00 PM. According to the weather report, it’s supposed to be clear, with temperatures in the mid-sixties.

You won’t see any contenders for the Central League Title in this game. You won’t even see any teams that have a chance of posting a winning record this year.

What you will see though, are two evenly matched squads banging heads in what should be an exciting football game.

Over the last five seasons, Penncrest, Lower Merion and Harriton have been, by far, the worst teams in the Central League. The good news for these teams is that they get to play each other.

Penncrest has been the “elite team” among the bottom three. Beginning in 2016 they’ve gone 5-0 against Harriton and 3-1 against Lower Merion. Against the rest of the League Penncrest is 2-39. Lower Merion is 4-1 against Harriton, 1-3 against Penncrest and hasn’t beaten any other team since 2012, when they beat Ridley. Harriton beat Penncrest in 2014 and Lower Merion in 2019.  Other than those two wins, Since 2013, Harriton hasn’t won any Central League games.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
