Lower Merion Football Tops Penncrest, Is Now 3-2

by Gerry

So maybe their schedule so far hasn’t exactly been what you might call, tough. The Aces won their opener in a non-league game against Pottstown, a school that has yet to win its first game.

The following week, Lower Merion lost by a very respectable score of 28-14, at Haverford High School.

In week three, the Aces won a surprisingly easy (47-6) home-game against  against Harriton,  another team that hasn’t won its first game yet.

Lower Merion lost at home to Conestoga in Week four, 40-14. But if you overlook the three kickoff returns that went for touchdowns, the rest of the game was hard-fought and close.

And then Friday night (September 24), the Aces pushed their record above .500 with a 49-20 win at Penncrest.

All right, maybe Penncrest’s coach did quit, about an hour before the game. And maybe Penncrest, like the other two teams Lower Merion has beaten, hasn’t won its first game this season.

On the other hand, a Lower Merion Football team hasn’t had a record that was this good, this late in the season, since 1992!

So let’s hear it for Coach of the Year, Joe Augustine, and the Lower Merion Aces!!

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
