Tonight the Harriton and Lower Merion Football teams have an opportunity to do something that they’ve never done before.
There’s a slight possibility that both the Rams and the Aces could win their Central League games on the same night.
Going back to when Harriton re-joined the Central League in 2008 (Harriton was part of the league when it formed in 1967, but by 1969, they were playing in the Suburban II League, and subsequently played in several other leagues, before returning to Central League). Harriton has only won seven league games against any team other than Lower Merion. And none of those wins have been since 2014.
During the same period, Lower Merion has only won six games against teams other than Harriton, but one of those games was last week against Penncrest, at Penncrest. Lower Merion beat them, 49-20.
Tonight the winless Harriton takes on the winless Penncrest, at Penncrest. Earlier this season, Harriton lost to Lower Merion 47-6.
Harriton and Penncrest also had a common foe this season in Conestoga, with both teams losing to them – Penncrest by 59-20, and Harriton 49-12.
So based on the “comparables,” tonight’s Harriton-Penncrest game is totally up for grabs.
Lower Merion plays at Upper Darby tonight at 6:00 (note time change). Upper Darby is 1-3 in league competition, but their three league losses have come against Ridley, Springfield and Garnet Valley – who have a combined conference record of 11-1. That makes the Aces clear underdogs tonight. But unlike most football games that Lower Merion and Harriton play, you might have to stick around to the end in order to see who wins this one.
