Less Government Party Wants To Impose Controls On Privately Owned Social Media Companies

by Gerry

Free speech shouldn't end when you log on to Twitter or Facebook. We need to start holding tech oligarchs accountable for censoring political speech they don't like. This can start at the state level and it's why I introduced SB 624. pic.twitter.com/l8BVkyrs2Z

— Senator Doug Mastriano (@SenMastriano) January 3, 2022

In the wake of Twitter’s banning Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from their platform, State Senator Doug Mastriano called attention to SB-604, a bill that he co-sponsored in May of 2021, called The Stop Social Media Censorship Act.

As Mastriano interprets the First Amendment, the Pennsylvania Legislature would have the authority to impose regulations on privately owned social media companies, such as Facebook and Twitter.

SB-604 would create a civil right of action to deter the following practices:

(1)  Deceptive trade practices.

(2)  False advertising.

(3)  Breach of contract.

(4)  Bad faith dealing.

(5)  Unfair dealing.

(6)  Fraudulent inducement.

(7)  Stifling political and religious speech in the modern-day digital public square cultivated by social media websites that have achieved critical mass through fraud.

Mastriano is expected to officially announce his candidacy for Governor on Saturday (January 8). Breitbart has made allegations that he has violated campaign finance laws.

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
