According to FoxNews.com “On Friday’s edition (November 22, 2019) of ‘The Story,’ Sandra Smith challenged a Democrat [sic] lawmaker’s claim that this week’s public hearings in the Trump impeachment inquiry showcased ‘incredibly convincing testimony of bribery.’ “
Dean: Trump had the opportunity the bring forward witnesses
Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (D, PA-4, Montgomery County) expressed puzzlement about President Donald Trump’s eagerness to have a full blown impeachment trial in the Senate. She noted that in the House hearings, Trump “had the opportunity to bring forward witnesses, he had the opportunity to bring any kind of exculpatory information and witnesses – in fact he blocked subpoenas – lawful subpoenas. He obstructed Congress from doing its oversight.”
A Freudian Slip?
Smith asked Dean if she could express an idea as to what the articles of impeachment might look like. Dean responded, “I don’t want to preview that for you for a simple reason – I am a member of this Judiciary Committee. I take my role incredibly seriously. Certainly we have just heard two weeks worth of damning testimony from career long Democrats [uh, did she mean to say career long diplomats?] who don’t have a political dog in this fight. They have only our national security, and peace and diplomacy around the world, at stake. So what I will say is that the Judiciary is awaiting the report, as you know, from House Resolution 660. We will receive a report from the Intelligence Committee as well as any other committee of oversight, and from that we will draft articles of impeachment.”
The day before her Fox News appearance, Dean spoke with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.”
She told Blitzer that she “had the opportunity to sit in the hearing room when she [Fiona Hill] made her opening statement … what I found in her was an extraordinary patriot – somebody standing at the ready to sound the alarm – not somebody who wanted to, but somebody who was a public servant, who was ready to sound the alarm about the wrongdoing of this administration, and directly about the wrongdoing of this president. I saw somebody of extraordinary courage – somebody who spoke clearly, concisely, without embellishment; of the facts and with precision.
