Villanova Library has an amusing “mini-exhibit” about student elections from “olden days.” Included among the “artifacts” is the May 10, 1957 front page (above) of The Villanovan, which covers the student election.
So what became of the three guys who won?
Sophomore Class President, Steve Mahle
Attended Villanova on a Naval ROTC scholarship. After graduating in 1961, he did a three-year stint in the Marines. Mahle worked for Leeds & Northrup for eight years and at Unisys for 15 years. Now he lives in Upper Gwynedd, PA.
Junior Class President, Vic Ludmerer
The only one of the three who went into “Real Politics.” After graduating from Fordham Law School, he ran for the New York State Assembly, at 27. After winning a contested Republican primary, he lost in the general election. In the mid-1970s, Ludmerer served as an Orange County (NY) Legislature member. His Facebook Profile, which has not been updated since 2019, shows him living in Greenwood, NY.
Senior Class President, Clem Birch
Was a native of Havertown, PA. According to his Linkedin Profile, he worked for many years as an Independent Executive Home Business Developer & Consultant. Now he lives in Wayzata, MN. In the early 1970s, Birch was president of the Forge Theater in Phoenixville.
