Russ Diamond Wants To Be ‘The Singing Lt. Governor’

by Gerry

Russ Diamond is a Republican state representative seeking his party’s nomination for Lt. Governor in the upcoming primary election, which is tentatively scheduled for May 17.

In support of his candidacy, Diamond has released a  music video on Youtube that features himself singing and playing guitar.

His campaign theme song is called “We Are Free.” The tune is a veritable earworm. Once you’ve heard it, you won’t be able to stop humming it.  “We Are Free” also has whipsmart clever lyrics, the likes of which Larry Hart and Cole Porter could only aspire to have written.

Diamond’s musical approach to vote-getting is not without precedent.

In 1944, Jimmie Davis sang his way to the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion. He wrote more than 400 songs, but Davis is best known by far, for “You Are My Sunshine,” which is now one of the state songs of Louisiana

Diamond’s “We Are Free,” speaks of constitutional amendments to put a petty Wolfman down. And we are free to make things right. We are free to get through the darkest night.  Diamond continues – we are free to start anew, and it begins with me talkin’ to you.

Diamond We Are Free HB 201

His anthem includes the prerequisite jab at the current President of the United States – Poor old Mr. Biden, bumbling through senility (the video shows Biden tripping up the stairs to Air Force One).

Diamond’s oeuvre also slings arrows at CRT and Mandates (vax or mask – take your choice). The video also has a visual reference to Diamond’s signature piece of legislation, HB-2013 – a bill that he calls “The Right To Medical Freedom Act.” Diamond’s HB-2013 would give healthcare workers the freedom to refuse vaccinations for any and all infectious diseases, not just Covid-19. His bill would also give food workers and restaurant employees the freedom to not wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

Why doesn’t Diamond take his bill a half step further and ban the use of toilet paper by restaurant workers, thereby cutting out the middle man?

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
