Do Not Expect Privacy At A Public Meeting
On Wednesday night (February 23), Lower Merion School District conducted a meeting, via Zoom, of their Ad-Hoc Committee on Equity and Racism.
The event was promoted on the district’s taxpayer-funded Facebook Page. It was hosted by the school district, at the taxpayers’ expense. The event was moderated by the superintendent, and it was attended by several school district employees and school board members who were acting in an official capacity.
Some of the participants of the meeting discussed sensitive, personal experiences pertaining to racism and homophobia that had occurred within Lower Merion School District.
Among those who shared their experiences was a Bala Cynwyd Middle School student.
Lower Merion School District Superintendent, Khalid Mumin, lavishly praised the student and others, for having the courage to PUBLICLY discuss their personal experiences.
However, just because some of the participants discussed personal matters, did not turn the public meeting into a private discussion.
If you speak publicly at a public meeting, don’t expect what you say to be kept private.
