Old Greg Vitali – Unendorsed, Outspent, Out-Organized – Wins By 16%

by Gerry

Greg Vitali will turn 66 on Saturday (June 4). He’ll be old enough to collect Social Security and Medicare benefits. But to receive those benefits Vitali would have to retire, and it looks like he’s not going to be doing that, at least for the next couple of years.

For the better part of the last year, David Brown, an early-30-something from Haverford Township, had been working diligently to make Vitali the former representative from Pennsylvania’s 166th House District.

Even though Vitali was the incumbent, and has been since he was first elected in 1992,  Brown managed to win the coveted (well, maybe not so coveted anymore) endorsement of the Delaware County Democratic Committee. Brown also spent more than twice much on his campaign as Vitali did. And by appearances, all the energy was on Brown’s side.

Brown Vitali Funds Available

To say that Brown out-organized Vitali would be an understatement. Brown actually had a campaign. Vitali on the other hand, just went about his business being “the leading environmental legislator in Harrisburg .” His campaign website was barely updated from two years ago.

But when the votes were all counted, it was Vitali 5,970 vs. Brown 4,298.

David Brown congratulates Greg Vitali, and announces that he’s running again in 2024.

Three days after the election, Brown posted a video on his Facebook Page in which he congratulated Vitali for having won the election, “fair and square.” In the video, Brown pledges to help Democrats win this November. At the conclusion of the video, he says “two years from now, I’ll be asking for your votes again.”

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
