Republicans Have Stopped Talking About Obamacare, But Democrats Aren’t Listening

by Gerry

In 2018,  Democrats took advantage of Republicans, who were still foolishly talking about repealing Obamacare.  Democrats appealed to voters’ legitimate concerns about losing their healthcare coverage, especially coverage for pre-existing conditions, which became a mantra for Democrats. As much as any other issue, pre-existing conditions enabled Democrats to flip the House from Red to Blue.

A search of 2018 in Newspapers.com for the keywords- Obamacare and Republican brings up 9,444 articles.

Republicans have since figured out that healthcare is a losing issue for them. Searching in Newspapers.com for the same keywords, produces only 635 articles, so far this year.

The GOP is no doubt relieved to  see that Democrats have all but abandoned what had been a hugely successful campaign issue for them.

Bob Casey’s ad declared, “if Lou Barletta had his way,  kids like mine could be denied the care they need.” Barletta hit back with an ad that described Casey’s ad as “a new low.” Barletta’s ad noted that his grandson was being treated for cancer at that time.

Newspapers Pre-Existing

If you searched for articles that contained the keywords “Pre-Existing Conditions” and “Democrat” in 2018, you would find 4,382 matches. But so far that this year, that search will only get you 104 matches.

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
