Update
Lisa Prosnitz has withdrawn as a candidate for School Board. Assuming no other candidates drop out, the field is now narrowed to six candidates seeking a maximum of five endorsements.
The Democratic Committee of Lower Merion Narberth (DCLMN) will have its endorsement meeting at Narberth Borough Hall on Thursday night (March 16).
The race for Lower Merion School Board is the only one for which the committee must decide whether and/or whom to endorse.
There are seven Lower Merion Township Commissioner races on the ballot this year. One candidate is seeking the committee’s endorsement in each of those seven races, so it is unlikely that any of them will not win the committee’s approval. Similarly, three candidates are seeking the committee’s endorsement for three positions on Narberth Borough Council. It would also require quite an effort for any of them not to be endorsed.
However, Seven Democrats are seeking a maximum of five endorsements for School Board. Top Row: Left to Right – Sarah Thomas, Todd William Ridky, Rebecca Rosenberger Smolen, Jason Herman
Bottom Row: Left to Right – Shayna Kalish (incumbent), Abigail Lerner Rubin, Lisa Dabbon Prosnitz
DCLMN does not have to vote two contestants off the island.
Instead, they could choose an Open Primary in which the voters would decide which Democrats they prefer to see as their party’s nominees for School Board.
Some of the more senior committee members will probably argue that if there’s an Open Primary, the voters might be tricked into voting for the one Republican, Laya Martinez. However, supporters of the Open Primary will remind them that in 2021, when there were three Republicans cross-filed in the School Board race ( (including one who tried to facilitate bus transportation to the January 6 “Event”), Democratic voters had little difficulty identifying those Republicans, and they were defeated handily.
