After years of haggling, with community members and among themselves, the Lower Merion School Board unanimously voted to change school start times. At Tuesday night’s (June 20) monthly meeting, the board voted to move high school start times from 7:30 to 8:30. Middle schools will start at 8:00. Currently, Welsh Valley, Bala Cynwyd and Black Rock all start at 8:15. Students at the district’s six elementary schools will see their start times moved forward by ten minutes, from 9:00 to 9:10.
Lisa Prosnitz has been at the forefront of the years-long struggle to win the board’s support for later high school start times. “This is a huge win for our kids.” she said.
