If you’re a devotee of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI), you’ve likely marveled at the beautiful mosaic mural hanging on the wall in the theater lobby. But did you know that the artist is a Lower Merion High School graduate?
Jonathan Mandell has created many murals in various topics and locations nationwide, including the National Constitution Center, Citizens Bank Park, and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. One of the most meaningful was the mosaic mural he created as the centerpiece of the newly dedicated Kobe Bryant Gymnasium at Lower Merion.
In an interview with Amy McCormack of Channel 6 News, Mandell discussed the mural and his incredible opportunity to meet Kobe Bryant. “It was an honor to create a mural that will be enjoyed by generations of Lower Merion students,” Mandell said. “Kobe Bryant was an inspiration to me, and I’m grateful that I had the chance to meet him.”
