Harriton Boys are supposed to win tennis and golf matches – and also soccer and lacrosse games and wrestling matches. Their Science Olympiad squad is also no slouch.
And now that they have been relegated from the Central League, even the football team won more games than they lost in 2023.
But, the basketball team – well, after their games, we would almost always say something like, “They hung in there” or “They fought hard.”
But beginning in 2022-2023 (Harriton was 13-9), and so far this season, the other teams are “hanging in there” against the Rams. For example, on Saturday night (December 16), Harriton improved their record to 6-2 (2-1 League) at the expense of Great Valley (not to be confused with Garnet Valley, a perennial Central League contender that will see if Harriton’s “for real” when the two teams meet at Harriton on January 9).
The Harriton – Great Valley game was part of a quadruple-header at Harriton, under the auspices of the City of Basketball Love’s Winter Showcase.
The Rams toyed with Great Valley in the first half, and with only a minute to go before intermission, they led the Patriots by only two points. But in the second half, Harriton outscored Garnet Valley 43-21 and cruised to 68-41 win.
The Ram’s Marquis Kubish led all scorers with 25 points. Jack Woodard had 15 for Garnet Valley.
