The Democrat Committee of Lower Merion Narberth decided on Tuesday night (January 23) that Mary Jo Daley’s fabulousness Trumped any need to facilitate something that resembles an authentic democracy, and greased the skids for Daley to enjoy her sixth consecutive Democrat primary run without the benefit of anybody else’s name appearing next to hers on the ballot.
The one fly in the royal jelly will be if Jason Landau Goodman decides to be a bad Democrat and refuses to abandon his fledgling campaign to challenge Daley in the April 23 primary when she will have to defend her 148th Legislative District seat, so to speak.
The Montgomery County Democrat Committee’s (MCDC) bylaws are abundantly clear that they don’t appreciate anybody questioning their wisdom by daring to oppose any of their endorsed candidates in a primary election. One of the favorite arguments that committee members who support non-competitive elections often make is that nothing stops anybody from running in the primary if they’re not endorsed. It would be less disingenuous if they were to say nothing stops anybody from running in the primary if they’re not endorsed, if they don’t mind being treated like a pariah by the party.
