Republicans in Lower Merion have seen their candidates’ vote percentages drop from a high of 62.4% in 1976, when Gerry Ford was losing Pennsylvania and the country to Jimmy Carter, to 20.9% in 2020, when Donald Trump “allegedly” succumbed to the same fate as Carter. Even in 1984, when Ronald Reagan won every state except Minnesota (and the District of Columbia), his winning margin dropped significantly in Lower Merion compared to his 1980 showing.
