Why Do We Care How Lower Merion Voted For Jury Commissioner Yesterday?

by Gerry

Except for a handful of lawyers, almost no one in Montgomery County can tell you who the Jury Commissioner is or what the job entails. And most of us are perfectly comfortable in that blissful ignorance.

If you’re like most of us, you couldn’t possibly name which of the two you voted for until reading this. So how did you decide whether to vote for Baptiste or Woods? Well, like like almost all of us, you voted for Baptiste if you were feeling a stronger affinity for Democrats. And you voted for Woods if you if felt a stronger affinity for Republicans.

In the 2025 Election, 81.52% of Lower Merion’s voters felt a stronger affinity to Democrats, and 18.48% leaned more to Republicans.

In the School Board Election, the four Democrats averaged 20,538 votes. The three Republicans averaged 7,073 votes. Democratic School Board candidates beat the Republicans by 74.38% to 25.61%. In the other two races where Lower Merion voters had a choice between Democrats and Republicans (Superior Court and Commonwealth Court), the Democrats’ majority was even slightly more than Baptiste’s. The Republican School Board candidates got 2,228 more votes than Merry Woods.

In light of the Democratic Wave, as witnessed by the votes in New York City, New Jersey, and Virginia, that at least 2,000 Democrats in Lower Merion were persuaded to vote for Republicans running for anything is not nothing.

A little more than 85% of Lower Merion voters chose to retain the three Democratic Supreme Court Judges.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
