Responding to an email, Narberth Borough Manager, Sean Metrick had this to say about the bridge repair’s “progress.”
The Narberth Avenue Bridge is a 100+ year old orphan bridge built by the railroad and deeded to the Borough, like so many others along the main line, a very long time ago. The Borough began the process of replacing the bridge more than 12 years ago.
The bridge is nearing completion of final design and engineering and construction funding is allocated in the PA TIP. The Borough is about 50% complete acquiring needed rights of way to build the bridge. We hope this all comes together this year and the project goes out for bid. The bridge had to be closed to vehicle traffic due to continued deterioration of the structure as a whole and the risk of concrete coming loose from the deck. The Borough engineer recommended closure to vehicles to mitigate this risk. The Borough will post and maintain additional information on its website at https://www.narberthpa.gov/information/project-information/construction-projects/ as things develop.
Metrick clarified that what meant when said that the The Borough is about 50% complete acquiring needed rights of way to build the bridge, was that
The project requires permanent and temporary easements from 6 properties. 3 transactions are complete and the other 3 are in process.
