Soon You Will Be Able To Perform PA Marriage Ceremonies
But first you’ll have to study for 120 hours.
The Judiciary Committee of the the Pennsylvania Senate unanimously approved SB-833, which will allow marriage ceremonies to be performed by A civil celebrant who has completed a civil celebrant course of study which includes at least 120 hours of instruction in planning and performing civil ceremonies, including celebrant philosophy and history, ceremonial structure and ceremonial presentations, offered by nondenominational or educational charitable organization that is registered with the Commonwealth.
The bill was introduced by “Lame Duck” Senator, Larry Farnese (D, Philadelphia). In the primary last spring, Farnese lost to Nikil Saval.
The Bill was Covid-19 Inspired
Farnese said, according to PennLive.com, “Pennsylvania’s marriage statute is extremely limited in who may perform these ceremonies, and there are even fewer options for people who wish to have ceremonies outside traditional institutions. At this time, where outside and scaled-back ceremonies are a necessity, providing this flexibility for couples wishing to marry in Pennsylvania is even more important.”
