As Methodist Church Splits World Wide Over LGBTQ Issues, Bryn Mawr Pastor Welcomes All

Right now, The United Methodist Church has more than 12 million members, but in the near future, that number will most likely be dramatically reduced. The church is on the verge of splitting apart.

David Tatgenhorst (“Pastor Dave”) of St. Luke Methodist Church in Bryn Mawr – “Our Supreme Court said Gay Marriage is legal. So churches have to decide. Are they going to marry same sex couples, or not?”

On February 27, 2019, AP reported that “the United Methodist Church, America’s second largest Protestant denomination, faces a likely surge in defections and acts of defiance after delegates at a crucial conference Tuesday rejected a move to ease the faith’s ban on same sex marriage and oridnation of LGBT clergy.

Some supporters of greater LGBT inclusion were in tears, while others vented their anger after delegates, on a 449-374 vote, defeated a proposal that would have let regional and local church bodies decide for themselves on gay-friendly policies.”

A proposal that offers “Traditionalists” $25 million to leave the church –  It’s just a proposal. Divided Methodists are not even close to a deal.

“St. Luke [in Bryn Mawr] is a reconciling congregation. We welcome everybody. We took a vote four years ago to officially welcome LGBTQ people to our church.”

The Methodist Church split in half during the 19th Century. The issue then was slavery.

Did the Pro-Slavery Faction quote scripture to justify their position?

Sunday mornings at St. Luke in Bryn Mawr – “inclusive and welcoming place … it’s a fun place to worship … the music is lively, the service is interesting and relevant to your life … casual dress code.

After chuch we have bagels and coffee and people get to hang out and talk to each other.”
