At 102, Alan Tripp Had An Itch To Scratch. So He And Marvin Weisbord (89) Recorded A Jazz CD. It’s Called “Senior Songbook.”

When I visited Alan Tripp in his apartment at The Beaumont recently, he had to excuse himself for a few minutes. His accountant was on the phone.

Financially speaking, Tripp has what you might call a high class problem. When he recorded the Senior Song Book last year, he figured that the whole project would be one big tax write-off. And wouldn’t you know it, he’s actually sold some CDs.

Well actually, he’s selling a lot of CDs.  So now he’s got to report the income.

And for that “problem” he has nobody to blame but himself.

GS: Is your publicist by any chance Ventura…?

AT: Yes, it’s Ventura Innovations, the company I own.

GS: So in other words, you’re your own publicist?

AT: Well I am indeed.

Man Bites Dog

As any PR Pro will tell you, it always helps helps to have a good story. And Alan Tripp had a great “man-bites-dog”  good story.

Before he was famous Alan Tripp (when he was just a successful Ad/PR Guy) created the Good ‘n Plenty Choo Choo TV Commercials

And before that,  he was the first person to own the TV rights for the NFL Championship Game.

In December of 1949, Tripp joined the Eagles and the Press Corps on a chartered Silver Meteor Train, from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.
