“It’ll be a a big movie. We have a lot of big movies, but this is going to be a very big movie. I’m sure” ~ Sam Scott, Executive Director, Bryn Mawr Film Institute.
When asked, “What’s the big deal about Down Abbey?” Scott referred to the TV series. He described the series as “a phenomenon.” The Downton Abbey movie premieres at BMFI on Thursday (September 19) and opens to the public on Friday (September 20). As part of the premiere festivities, the theater is hosting a sold-out reception before the screening.
According to their press release, “BMFI will host the Downton Abbey Premiere Event one night before the film’s official opening! Prior to the premiere of this fall’s most anticipated movie, BMFI will invite guests to enjoy a reception fit for the Dowager Countess, with bites from A Taste of Britain and cocktails crafted by Stateside Vodka. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite fascinators, chicest cloches, or tea-worthy white gloves to experience this grand evening in an historic Downton-era theater. Bryn Mawr Film Institute is the must-attend location to for true Downton enthusiasts. In this feature-length continuation of the Masterpiece series, the Crawleys prepare for a royal visit with the help of their steadfast crew, stirring up scandal, romance, and intrigue at Downton in 1927. Bryn Mawr Film Institute, which opened in 1926, is the exact type of movie palace that a star-struck Daisy, date-night Bateses, or even a begrudging Mrs. Patmore would enjoy on a free evening.”
