The Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI) will offer two screenings of Martin Scorsese’s 1980 Academy Award-winning film (Robert De Niro, Best Actor, Thelma Schoonmaker, Best Film Editing), “Raging Bull.”
On November 29, the movie will be presented with a “Cinema Classics Seminar” by Amy Corbin, Ph.D., Muhlenberg College. Her talk will begin at 6:30 PM. The movie screening is also open to the public at 7:15.
BMFI will have a second screening of “Raging Bull” on December 4 at 7:15 PM.
In 1998 Roger Ebert wrote – Raging Bull” is not a film about boxing but about a man with paralyzing jealousy and sexual insecurity, for whom being punished in the ring serves as confession, penance and absolution. It is no accident that the screenplay never concerns itself with fight strategy. For Jake LaMotta, what happens during a fight is controlled not by tactics but by his fears and drives.
