Central League Players And Parents Push Back Against Sports Ban

Central League Players And Parents Push Back Against Sports Ban

Central League athletes and their parents are protesting and petitioning in an effort to reverse the league’s decision to postpone fall sports. Harriton and Lower Merion High Schools both play in the Central League.

Petition to PIAA

In case you’ve lost your scorecard, here’s what’s been happening.

On August 6, Governor Wolf recommended (not a requirement, mind you) that all Pennsylvania high school sports should be suspended at least until January.

On August 21, the PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) in so many words,  told the governor, thanks for the recommendation, but we’re playing.

Then on August 23, the Central League announced that, notwithstanding the “green light” from the PIAA, they were going to delay the start of Fall Sports until … until sometime.

Protesters flocked to the Chester County Health Department office in West Chester Monday. Students from Central League and Chester County schools held signs that said "Let Us Play," "Mental Health Matters" and "Let Seniors Finish What We Started." https://t.co/I80oiGLxJI

In the middle of all that, Republican legislators in Harrisburg came out in favor of “letting them play” (the kids will get over it and Granny’s already lived a long life).

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
