The Shimada Gym at Friends Central School was buzzing with young basketball talent this weekend. Also on hand were college coaches, with clipboards in hand, hoping to spot the next big star for their programs – or if not that, perhaps some solid role players and who will be able to play a little defense, rebound and maybe even scored for them, occasionally.
Josh Verlin, who, as he would say “is a product of Harriton High School and grew up in Penn Valley,” is the impresario who brought them all together at his City of Basketball Love (COBL) Underclassmen Exposure Camp.
As Verlin explains, COBL is a website that “covers area high school and college basketball in an around Philadelphia – everything from 9th grade to 12th grade, and into Division I, Division II and Division III. We’ll cover everything from Friends Central to Villanova to Rosemont, Swarthmore and everything in between,” said Verlin.
