On Saturday night (11/23/2019), now with the Atlantic Hawks, but barely 2.5 years out of Friends Central; Hunter scored 26 points, hitting 10 out 17 shots from the field, and going 6-10 from beyond the three point arc. Click above to watch video
As a freshman playing for the University of Virginia, Hunter was named ACC “Sixth Man of the Year.” However, he broke his hand at the end of the regular season. In the first round of the NCAA tournement, he had to watch his team become the first ever top seed to lose to a 16-seed.
But following the year (2019), Hunter was healthy, and he led U.VA. to an NCAA Title.
Since 2013, De’Andre Hunter is the third Friends Central Graduate to play in the NBA. He was preceded by Hakim Warrick, who graduated from high school in 2001.
As teammate of Carmelo Anthony at Syracuse (2002-2003), Warrick played a major role in their championship season.
After graduating from college, Warrick went on to play eight seasons in the NBA. Click above to watch video
For a brief period of time during the 2010-2011 NBA season, Hakim Warrick was joined by fellow Friends Central graduate, Mustafa Shakur, who has having a “cup of coffee” in “The League.”
After graduatiing from Friends Central in 2003 (he and Warrick did not overlap there), Shakur “took his talents” from City Line Avenue to Tuscon, where he played four respectable seasons at the University of Arizona. His college and pro careers never lived up to the hype that he generated in high school, when he was MacDonalds All American.
