PA Post Reported on Saturday (July 18) that “A federal judge has agreed to fast track the lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump’s election campaign against Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar and the commonwealth’s 67 county election boards over vote-by-mail procedures.
U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan limited the scope of discovery, however, to the information counties and the Department of State already have assembled for a report on the June 2 primary that’s due to be submitted by August 1 to the state legislature.”
Republicans are suing the Secretary of State and 67 Counties
On June 29. the Trump Campaign along with the Republican National Committee, and four Pennsylvania Republican members of Congress: Glen Thompson, Mike Kelly, John Joyce and Guy Reschenthaler, filed a lawsuit against Pennsylvania Secretary of State, Kathy Boockvar; and also against 67 county election boards.
The Hill wrote, on the same day that the suit was filed, “
The Trump campaign and Republicans are seeking an order that would prohibit Pennsylvania from permitting absentee and mail-in ballots to be returned to locations other than the offices of the county boards of elections.
They’re also seeking an order that bars the county election board from counting absentee and mail-in ballots that ‘lack a secrecy envelope’ or have any text or symbols on envelopes revealing the elector’s identity, party affiliation or candidate preference.
Democrats are also suing the Secretary of State and 67 Counties
Not to be outdone, on July 13, Democrats also sued Boockvar and 67 county election boards. However, the Democrats filed their suit in Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court. PennLive reported that “Fifteen Democratic lawmakers and candidates and the Pennsylvania Democratic Party filed a lawsuit in Commonwealth Court aimed at responding to what they view as voter suppression moves by the Republican National Committee and President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.
The lawsuit filed against Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar and the 67 county election boards seeks to ensure mail-in ballots are counted, to allow counties to use drop boxes for ballots in multiple locations, and to require poll watchers to live in the county in which they want to serve as a watcher.
