Gaza War Brings Drama To Lansdowne Council

by Gerry

On Wednesday night (December 6), five members of Landsdowne Borough Council voted to rescind their own November 15 resolution, “Condemning the Attack by Hamas, and Rising Antisemitism and Islamophobia in Our Community.” The November 15 resolution passed by a vote of 7-0.  Only Council President Ben Hover voted to keep the resolution in place.

“Public Comment” was emotional and often became acrimonious, with speakers expressing support for and against the original resolution. Some of those who favored the motion to rescind voiced concern that Council hadn’t followed proper procedure before passing the Anti-Hamas Resolution. Others complained that Council shouldn’t weigh in on international issues. But by far, what drew the most attention was what numerous speakers described as the “war crimes”, apartheid” and “genocide” being perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian People.

“It’s Not Because Michael Solomonov Is Jewish. It Is Because He Has Built His Entire Reputation And Branding As A Chef, With Restaurants, With Cookbooks, With a Documentary Film – On Prosyletizing For Israeli Cuisine.”

“An Open Air Prison”

“Israel Is Like A Roaring Lion.”

“This Conflict Was Not Initiated By Hamas On October 7.”

“Jewish Queer Artist” Blocked on Social Media

“The Disproportionate Response By the IDF Has Killed Almost 16,000.”

“What Happened To Those Gazan Peace Activists?”

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
