Gladwyne Is The Richest Census Tract In Lower Merion, But Wynnewood Is Better Educated

Lower Merion Census Tract Map

According to the U.S. Census,  Lower Merion is comprised of 15 Villages or Census Tracts (They use the terms interchangeably). Most of the map above will probably make sense to you, with one notable exception.

Somebody at the Census Bureau decided that there is a place in Lower Merion called North Ardmore. The Census Bureau’s North Ardmore includes all of St. Charles Seminary, the “Indian Creek” neighborhood, Short Ridge and Main Line Reform Synagogue. Along City Avenue, it goes from Wynnewood Road to Lancaster Avenue. Then it runs northwest along Lancaster Avenue until it gets to Anderson Avenue. So there is quite a bit “Real Ardmore” in what they consider to be North Ardmore, including the whole business district on one side of Lancaster Ave, Ardmore West and Suburban Square.

There is also a census tract #2056 Montgomery County, called Narberth, which believe it or not, includes all of the Borough of Narberth and nothing else.

The Census Bureau collects all kinds of data at the Census Tract level, including but not limited to Median Family Income and Educational Level Attainment.

“Only” 81.5% of the residents in Gladwyne had a bachelors’ degree or higher, whereas 89.5% of Wynnewood achieved that level of education. 14.68% of Cynwyd had doctorates as compared to only 6.52% of their more affluent neighbors in Gladwyne.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
