Lower Merion High School’s basketball team beat Haverford High (December 20, at Haverford). It was a “special T-Shirt” occasion, as Gregg Downer guided the Aces to their 700th win as their head coach.

Gregg Downer 10 points

Before Downer won his first game with Lower Merion against Upper Darby on Dec 21, 1990 (The Aces lost their first five games with Downer at the Helm), before a 14-year-old freshman named Kobe Bryant played his first game on December 11, 1992 (a loss to Haverford School), before Downer’s Aces won 17 Central League Championships, four District 1 Titles and three State Championships – Gregg Downer played against Lower Merion, at Lower Merion, and scored 10 points to help his Pennrest Lions beat Lower Merion.

They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
