Haverford And Radnor Dems Endorse Cappelletti

This afernoon, at the Springfield Township Building, the Haverford and Radnor contingents of the Delaware County Democratic Committee (DCDC) endorsed Amanda Cappelletti in the race for 17th District State Senatorial Seat. Cappelleti received 69 votes to the incumbent Daylin Leach’s 48, which works out to 58.97% for Cappelletti. However, because of the ranked choice voting system that DCDC  implemented this year for its endorsement convention, her final percentage was reduced to 56.25%, still enough to clear the minimum of 55% that DCDC requires for an endorsement.

The Montgomery County Democratic Committee (MCDC) requires a candidate to get at least 60% of the votes in order to win an endorsement. Their endorsement meeting was Thursday night at Plymouth Meeting High School. In the second round of the MCDC meeting, Cappelletti received 56.88% of the votes. Therefore, MCDC did not endorse anybody for the 17th District race. This is known as an Open Primary.

Today’s results represent a huge boost to Cappelletti’s campaign and a major set back to Leach’s. It will undoubtedtly have a significant impact on the fundraising efforts of the two leading candidates in this race.

After the votes were announced this afternoon, Linda Fields said that she was still in the race. Her supporters swung to Leach in the second round on Thursday night, and enabled him to prevent the Montgomery County Part of the 17th District from endorsing Cappelletti. The extent to which Fields continues to wage a serious campaign could be a significant factor in this election.

The Three Parts of SD-17

In the 2016 Democratic Primary in which Leach ran unopposed (what a difference four years makes), 31.8% of his votes came from Delaware County. 31.5% of his votes were from Lower Merion. And 36.8% of Leach’s votes came from the other Montgomery County municipalities that comprise the 17th District.

Assuming that everybody who voted for Cappelletti in the first round voted for her in second, and that everybody who voted for Leach in the first round also voted for him in the second round, then it is almost safe to assume that the majority of the 36 votes (19) that went to Fields and Atkins, went to Leach in the second round.

When you say her supporters swung to Leach. are you saying they were aked/directed to do so or just did it on their own. Also they didn’t all go that way or the numbers would have been different. Just curious exactly what you mean.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
