Lankenau Doc Tests CBD To Treat Neuropathy In Cancer Patients
A new clinical trial being conducted by Marisa Weiss, MD, a radiation oncologist at Lankenau Medical Center, seeks to determine if cannabidiol (CBD), a naturally occurring compound found in the flower of the hemp cannabis plant, could offer a treatment for patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).
Dr. Weiss also serves as the director of breast radiation oncology at Lankenau Medical Center and an adjunct professor of the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, the research division of Main Line Health. She is a leading figure in the breast cancer community, as founder and chief medical officer of the organization Breastcancer.org.
According to Main Line Health, “CBD is a hemp-based product that is commercially available for human consumption. Hemp is not marijuana and is not intoxicating.”
