It must have been one hell of a half-time pep talk that Lower Merion Boys Basketball Coach Gregg Downer gave to his Aces on Saturday night (March 11). The Ardmore Locals stormed back from a 39-28 deficit at intermission to outscore Williamsport 20-10 in the third period. Lower Merion didn’t let up in the fourth quarter, although Williamsport made a mini-run and tied the game at 55-55 with 4:22 remaining.
The Aces next PIAA Class 6A Tournament opponent is Roman Catholic. According City of Basketball Love, Lower Merion’s chances against the Cahillites have improved significantly, because “Roman starters Jermai Stewart-Herring and Erik Oliver-Bush [are] ineligible for the state tournament due to transfer rules, the Cahillites are missing a combined 21.6ppg, 9.3 rebounds, and a lot of defensive versatility.”
Final – Lower Merion 65, Williamsport 58
