Lower Merion Democrats Poised To Flip One Of Two GOP Commissioner Seats

by Gerry

In November, Democrats will likely flip Lower Merion’s 11th Ward Commissioners’ seat, which has been Republican since you were born. The 14-member Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners currently comprises 12 Democrats and two Republicans.

Republican Tiffany O’Neill was first elected to represent the 11th ward in 2015 when she defeated Bill Madway 538-419. All of her predecessors were Republicans. O’Neill won re-election in 2019 without facing any opposition. She has decided not to run again in 2023.

Epstein Klotzbach

Mark Klotzbach is running this year as the Republican candidate. He will face and most likely lose to Democrat Maggie Harper Epstein.

A Klotzbach win will require a stunning reversal of voting trends in the 11th ward (in Bryn Mawr and Rosemont). Last year, the ward gave 67% of its votes to John Fetterman in his race against Mehmet Oz. And in 2021, even though she lost statewide to Megan Sullivan by nine percent in a race for Superior Court, Tamika Lane still managed win almost 66% of the vote in the 11th Ward.

It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
