Lower Merion Climate Advocacy Group Launches With Public Zoom Meeting Tonight

CALM Climate Action Lower Merion

Last night, Climate Action Lower Merion launched its website, and tonight, the newly formed group hopes to connect with like-minded Lower Merion residents (Narbs are invited too) on a public Zoom Call at 7:00.

Nancy Winkler, from Merion, seems to be the driving force behind the group, although she says that there are lots of people involved, and there is no hierarchy.

From the CALM website:

This site is a resource for you, to help you learn about what you can do to reduce your impact on global warming, both individually, as well as in the community. In the Local Context page we provide information and resources for you to learn about what’s happening in Lower Merion, our region and the state. The Individual Action page provides a wealth of information for both those just beginning to learn how to live more sustainably and those seeking to take bigger steps. We focus on the realities of our local built environment here in Lower Merion, and local organizations rather than the national or international scene. There’s a lot to process, so go at your own pace! The News page highlights a few important local issues that are currently under discussion in the Township, County or Commonwealth. The Health & Justice page addresses the many areas in which tackling climate change will improve our lives, our health, and our economy both here in SE PA as well as for our neighbors around the world.

Tonight’s meeting is focused on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection:

“RGGI is an initiative of 10 New England and Mid-Atlantic states, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector while generating economic growth.

Together Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York Rhode Island and Vermont cap and reduce their power sector carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This is achieved by setting a regional cap or limit on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from electric power plants in the participating states.”

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
