At their meeting on Wednesday night (December 15), the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance that increases the tax credit of Lower Merion’s volunteer firefighters from 20% to up to 100%.
After the ordinance passed, Board President, Dan Bernheim noted rather pointedly that the firefighters’ bigger tax credit only applies to the smaller portion of their real estate tax bill that is imposed by the commissioners. Bernheim said “We have made the comment on a number of occasions about this board being trend-setters. It’s a shame that Mr. [Ben] Driscoll left our meeting early because he could go back to the School Board, and tell them what we did in reference to this and coerce them to do the same.”
