Lower Merion New School Superintendent Gets Tear-filled Send-Off From Reading School District

Reading School Board thanks Mumin, formally accepts resignation https://t.co/q7TVHG6QFf

The Reading School Board unanimously accepted Khalid Mumin’s resignation at their meeting on Wednesday (August 25).

The Reading Eagle wrote on Thursday (August 26) – It was a tearful Reading School Board meeting as the board voted to accept the resignation of the man credited with pulling the district back from the brink seven years ago.

The board, with regrets, voted 9-0 to accept Dr. Khalid N. Mumin’s resignation.

Mumin announced last week that he has accepted the job of superintendent of the Lower Merion School District in Montgomery County. His last day in Reading will be Oct. 8.

“It’s been quite a ride,” board President Robin Costenbader-Jacobson said Wednesday night, fighting through tears. “You will be greatly missed not only by the district, by your boards of directors over the seven years you’ve been here and certainly the entire community. Thank you for everything that you’ve done and everything that you’ve changed.”

According to WFMZ-TV – Mumin received some significant attention earlier this year when the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators named him the 2021 Pennsylvania superintendent of the year. He also was a finalist for national superintendent of the year.

Mumin said he was filled with thankfulness and humility for the school board, staff, children, parents and community.

“This journey is one that has been one of a lot of challenges,” Mumin said, “but it feels good to be successful and have districts nationally look at the work that is being done in the Reading School District as a model for success.”

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
