Lower Merion Tops Chester, 75-60

by Gerry

As the first quarter ended, the Chester Clippers had the Lower Merion Boys Basketball Team buried into a 16-6 hole. Chester’s 10-point lead held through much of the second period until the Aces went on a 15-5 spree at the quarter’s close to tie the game.

Aces coach Gregg Downer must have said the right things in the locker room during halftime. Lower Merion exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Clippers 29-8.

Until five minutes into the period, Aces team leader Sam Brown didn’t have anything but his name written in the scorebook. But in the final three minutes of the third quarter, he dropped in 10 of his 12 total points.

Justin Poles was the top scorer for Lower Merion with 16 points. Kyree Womack also had 16 for Chester.

The Aces will “travel” to Rosemont on Thursday Night (January 5, 7:00 PM) for a Central League game against Harriton.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
