Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon sent an email blast this week, sounding the alarm about the one announced Republican who plans to run in the upcoming Republican Primary. Scanlon called on her supporters to make contributions to “our emergency response budget today.”
The cause for alarm is Joe Billie. As Scanlon notes, Billie wants to build a wall at the southern border, wants to repeal the ACA, wants to expand gun rights and believes that any abortion is murder.
Despite the congresswoman’s concerns, it is unlikely that the Republican Congressional Campaign Committtee (RCCC) will be expending much energy or money on Billie’s campaign (this is all assuming that no other Republican runs in the primary and beats him). In 2016 Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump in Scanlon’s district (PA-5) 62.6%- 34.4%. Last November Scanlon bested Clinton’s performance, toppping GOP challenger Pearl Kim in the CD-5 race, 65.2% to 34.8%
