The Katherine E. McBride Gateway at Bryn Mawr College was constructed in 1894. Connecting the Pembroke East and Pembroke West dormitories, it was known as the Pembroke Arch until 1986, when it was renamed for McBride, who served as the college president from 1942 until 1970.
Actress Katherine Hepburn lived in Pembroke West during her Freshman year. She moved to Pembroke East as a sophomore, living there until she graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1928.
