McCormick Makes Bid For ‘Dukakis Award’

by Gerry

Dukakis McCormick

Trump-snubbed, Dave McCormick, has put himself into contention for the Dukakis Award, named after failed 1988 Democratic Presidential Candidate, Michael Dukakis. The award is given to political candidates who allow themselves to be filmed, while looking foolish and wearing helmets.

In 1988, polls showed Dukakis having a double-digit lead over Republican, George H. W. Bush. But the GOP began running an ad showing Dukakis sporting an awkward, grin while riding helmeted in a tank (the footage of Dukakis had actually been provided by the Dukakis campaign), and Dukakis’s lead promptly began to dissipate.

Un-Trump-Endorsed Republican Senatorial candidate McCormick’s self-narrated ad opens with the vroom-vroom of a motorcycle, followed by the candidate telling us, “it’s time to drive freedom home, in America.” The pitch continues with McCormick leading a pack of bikers down what appears to be a country road (presumably in Pennsylvania, but that is not confirmed). As Bikers for McCormick concludes, we see a bunch of guys who Central Casting decided could pass for fellows who ride motorcycles. They all shout something indecipherable and hold up Trump campaign banners – even though Trump endorsed McCormick’s opponent, Mehmet (Dr.) Oz.

Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
