Montco Dems Split From State Committee -Endorse Judicial Candidates
In February, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party endorsed David Spurgeon for the upcoming Commonwealth Court Primary, however they did not endorse any candidates for a second seat that is also open on the Commonwealth Court. But when the Montgomery County Democratic Committee (MCDC) held its endorsement meeting, they endorsed Spurgeon as well as Lori Dumas.
The state Democratic Committee did not endorse any candidates for the one the open seat on the Pennsylvania Superior Court, but MCDC endorsed Timika Lane.
The state committee requires a two thirds vote among qualified committee members in order to endorse candidates, whereas MCDC requires the votes of only 60% of qualified members, for them to endorse.
Spurgeon and Dumas will face opposition from Amanda Green-Hawkins and Sierra Thomas Street. In 2019, Green- Hawkins ran for Superior Court and was endorsed by the State Democratic Party. Hawkins won the primary but lost in the general election.
Lane will be opposed in the Democratic Primary race for Superior Court by Jill Beck and Bryan Neft
