Montco GOP Sample Ballot Hijinks

MCRC Ballot HiJinx

The leadership of the Montgomery County Republican Committee (MCRC), undeterred by their own bylaws that prohibit them from endorsing candidates in statewide primary elections, came up with a lawyerly workaround that enabled them to make it appear that the whole committee had endorsed Dave White for Governor, and Clarice Schillinger for Lt. Governor.

The only place on their sample ballot where the word “endorsement” can be found is on the line for U.S. Senate. Actually, it says “No Endorsement.”

For Governor, they show Dave White’s name, followed by an asterisk. Similarly, for Lt. Governor they show Clarice Schillinger’s name, also followed by an asterisk.

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the page, in teeny-weeny type, you’ll see the “explanation” for the asterisk. It says * Recommended by Montgomery County Republican State Committee Members.

MCRC has hundreds of committee members, but their delegation to the state committee is only comprised of 20 members.

The way the disclaimer is written, it could just as easily be interpreted that White and Schillinger were endorsed by the committee and recommended by Montgomery County Republican State Committee Members.

In the unlikely event that MCRC Leadership didn’t want to completely mislead its voters, their disclaimer could have at least read “Not Endorsed by MCRC, but recommended by Montgomery County Republican State. Committee Members.

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
