Narberth Gets A New Congresswoman

by Gerry

A new map of Pennsylvania’s congressional districts, approved Wednesday (February 23) by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, shows the Borough of Narberth as part of Mary Gay Scanlon’s 5th Congressional District. Previously, Narberth was included in Madeleine Dean’s 4th Congressional District.

From N. Wynnewood Road to N. Bowman Avenue, Montgomery Avenue now separates the two districts, with everything on the north side of Montgomery in the Fourth District and everything on the south side of Montgomery (that would include Narberth) in the Fifth District.

Residents in parts of Merion will also have new representatives in Congress. The Fifth District was previously bounded by N. Bowman Avenue on its northeast side and Merion Road on its northwest side (with the exception of a small incursion west of Merion Road, near the train station.

Whereas before, Merion Road was the boundary line from City Avenue to North Bowman, the new map shows the boundary being moved, for the most part, over to Old Lancaster Road. The “Hymies Block” on Montgomery Avenue is still in the 4th District, as is a small incursion that goes west from Old Lancaster between Highland Avenue and Melrose Road.
