Nina Ahmad’s Finance Reports are Interesting

She Owes Herself Amost A Million Dollars.

If you’ve been watching any TV at all, you’ve probably seen Nina Ahmad’s campaign ad, the one that says, “She waitressed before becoming a scientist.”

And if you’re wondering who’s paying for all those ads, the answer is, for the most part, the former waitress is paying them.

Ahmad’s campaign for Auditor General is her second attempt to win statewide office. In 2018 she ran for Lt. Governor, and came in second (in a field of five) to John Fetterman.

According to the final finance report she filed for that campaign, Ahmad received contributions of $912,943.17 (and spent $915,982.62).

By far, Ahmad’s most generous contributor was Ahmad herself. She “donated” $655,835.52, compared to all other contributors who gave her $257,107.65.

Here’s where it gets interesting.

“Nina for PA’s” final report for the 2018 campaign, shows an unpaid debt to Nina Ahmad, of $655,835.52.

For Ahmad’s current campaign, she is again, far and away her biggest “contributor.” This time her campaign has received a total of $528,706.25 (spending $504,401.41). Of that, $330,433 came from Ahmad, and $198,272.91 from others. And again, all the money that Ahmad “contributed” to the campaign was put “on the tab.” As of her most recent campaign report, “Nina for PA” owes Nina Ahmad, $986,268.86

What will be interesting to see is, if and how “Nina for PA” plans to pay back its almost $1,000,000 debt to Nina Ahmad, especially if she wins this time.

As an elected official, will she be seeking post election contributions to retire her campaign’s debt to herself?

    Is she doing anything illegal?

I don’t think so, but as Auditor General, if she tried to hit up contributors for the purpose of paying back her loan, that might be an impetus to pass some new laws to prevent that kind of stuff.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them.
