There are no contested primaries for Lower Merion Township Commissioner this year. Nor are there any contested primaries for Narberth Borough Council. In fact, except for Lower Merion’s Wards 11 and 13, there will not be any contested races in November, either – since no Republicans have filed to run in Lower Merion Wards 1,3,5,7 and 9.
The same is true in Narberth where no Republicans have filed to run for Borough Council.
In Ward 13, incumbent Commissioner Gilda Kramer will face token opposition from Republican Daniel Mark. After winning a contested primary in 2019, Kramer ran unopposed in the general election.No Republican has run for commissioner in Ward 13 since Brian McGuire defeated Louis Barson in 2011.
In November, Ward 13 gave Democrat John Fetterman the edge over Republican Mehmet Oz by 2,026-501. Mark has his work cut out for him if he’s really serious about trying to unseat Kramer.
Ward 11 is another story. It’s represented by Tiffany O’Neill, one of two Republican commissioners. She’s not running for re-election. The 11th Ward race in November will feature Democrat Maggie Harper Epstein against Republican Mark Klotzbach. Last November, Fetterman carried Ward 11 by 1,325 to 617. So Epstein has to be seen as the favorite to flip Ward 11 into the Democratic Column.
