Only 28% Of Lower Merion And Narberth Voters Took Part In Tuesday’s Election

by Gerry

Lower Merion and Narberth have a total of 53,326 registered voters, but only 14,912 (27.97% ) took part in the primary election on Tuesday (April 23). 8,198 of the township and borough residents were not eligible to vote (notwithstanding that their taxes go toward paying the not insignificant costs of administering a primary election) because they are not members of either the Democratic or Republican Parties.

Of the 11,084 Republicans in Lower Merion and Narberth, only 2,326 voted on Tuesday (20.98%). The Republicans’ poor turnout might be explained by the lack of competitive races on their ballot. The only contested race for members of the GOP to weigh in on was for Attorney General, which was barely competitive. Dave Sunday won that election, garnering more than 70% of the vote, statewide

Voter Turnout LM Narb 2024 Primary

12,586 out of the 34,044 Democrats in Lower Merion and Narberth participated in the primary. Democrats at least had two competitive statewide races to attract the attention. Five candidates, who waged robust campaigns, ran for Attorney General.

Among the Democrats in that race, Jared Solomon was the leading vote-getter in Lower Merion and Narberth, collecting 3,299 votes. However, statewide, he ran dead last, winning only 13.33% of the vote compared to the winner, Eugene DePasquale, who got 35.37% of the vote.

In Lower Merion and Narberth, DePasquale received only 1,858 votes,15.17 of the total votes cast.

In the Democratic Primary for  State Treasurer, Erin McClelland won 54.18% of the vote statewide, defeating Ryan Bizzarro. However, Bizzarro won 62.6% of the vote in Lower Merion and Narberth. Bizzarro was the endorsed candidate of the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee.

In the 2020 primary, when there was a hotly contested State Senate race, the number of Democrats in Lower Merion who voted was more than 35% greater than it was this year.

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]
