PA Superior Court Race - A Test Of Trump Strength?
If the two Republican candidates for Pennsylvania Superior Court are elected on November 5, Donald Trump will probably take credit for it. And if they lose he will most likely not say anything at all about it , or he might say something to effect that it doesn’t matter, because he wasn’t on the ballot.
Regardless, the election for Pennsylvania Superior Court is the only statewide race in Pennylvania this year. So you can be sure that political analysts will be drawing conclusions about the result of this election; as to whether Trump’s support in Pennsylvania is waxing or waning.
Last spring, Trump tweeted his endorsement for one of the Republican Superior Court candidates, Megan King. And the other Republican candidate, Crystylee Peck, posed with King at a Trump Rally.
Pro Life When It's Convenient
When King and Peck were running in the Primary, their campaign literature touted their endorsement by the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. Now however, neither one of them mentions anything having to do with the issue of abortions.
On both of the websites of their Democratic opponents, Daniel McCaffery and Amanda Green-Hawkins, include endorsements from Planned Parenthood.
Also during the primary, King and Peck called attention to their endorsements by Firearms Owners Against Crime (FOAC). Peck’s website still lists her endorsement by that group. However, King, even though she is still endorsed by FOAC, doesn’t mention them on her website. Green-Hawkins and McCaffery have not taken public positions on gun owners’ rights.
Some sticklers might quibble with King and Peck for appearing at a MAGA Rally, arguing that it violates the Rules of Judicial Conduct. But in fairness to the two Republican candidates, the code does not say that that a judge or a judicial candidate shall positively not “publicly endorse or publicly oppose a candidate for any public office.” And not only that, just because they attended a Trump Rally, and posed for a photo (smiling) with somebody conspicuosly displaying a MAGA hat, King and Peck could have just been attending the event as curiosity seekers, and their appearance at the rally does not necessarily mean that they endorse Trump.
Bar Association Recommendations
Before the Primary, the Pennsylvania Bar Association gave McCaffery its Highly Recommended Rating. King and Peck were rated Recommended. Green-Hawkins was Not Recommended.
