Last month, the Montgomery County Republican Committee (MCRC) Tweeted an announcement (on official MCRC letterhead) that their State Committee Delegation recommends Dave White for Governor and Clarice Schillinger for Lt. Governor.
To be clear (ahem), MCRC did not endorse White for Governor or Schillenger for Lt. Governor. However, in the second paragraph of MCRC’s announcement, Dave White is quoted saying, “I am thrilled to earn the endorsement of the Montgomery County GOP.” And a few days later MCRC re-tweeted Schillinger saying that she had been endorsed by MCRC.
There is a difference between a recommendation and an endorsement.
According to its bylaws, MCRC is not allowed to endorse candidates for statewide office. However, apparently, MCRC’s leadership is not in violation of their own bylaws, if they announce, under the full committee’s letterhead, that its delegation to the State Committee has recommended certain candidates.
Trashing certain Republicans on MCRC’s Official Twitter Account, in the midst of a contested primary,
is also permissible under MCRC’s bylaws, as is evidenced by the above tweet, which suggests that gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano “may well cost Republicans the Senate race that will share the ballot this fall, a couple of congressional races, and perhaps even majorities in the state House and state Senate.”
Mastriano has endorsed Teddy Daniels for Lt. Governor. MCRC wasn’t doing Mastriano or Daniels any favors by promoting the article above, about Daniels being the subject of a temporary Protection From Abuse Order (PFA).
A Wayne County Court tossed out Daniels’s PFA on Friday (May 6), but MCRC hasn’t see the need yet, to mention that on their Twitter Page.
